Wild Canines

Mancos is home to Coyotes, Red Foxes, and Gray Foxes. All have been seen in the park, mostly at dawn and dusk. Mancos’s wild canines have never been involved in a conflict with people or pets. However, both coyotes and foxes are territorial, and may not like it when a domestic dog is near.

Therefore, try to remember the following guidelines:

• Keep ALL pets on a leash while walking them. This isn’t just advice, it’s a law.
• If a coyote approaches you or your pet, you should throw rocks, sticks, or anything else to frighten it away.
• Use a loud, authoritative voice to frighten the animal.
• Never feed a coyote, no matter how docile it appears.
