Winter Activities

Camping

Lakeside, Cove, and Pelican Campgrounds are available for reservations during the fall and winter months. The camper services buildings (flush toilets and showers) are closed. The vault toilets remain open. Three campgrounds are closed October 1st through March 31st: Sandpiper, Fox Hills, and Northview.

Water hydrants are operational at the dump station.

Hunting

Hunting is allowed in designated areas with archery or shotguns with birdshot.

Ice Activities

Before going out onto a frozen lake, pond, or river, it’s important to take safety precautions to reduce the risk of falling through the ice. Knowing how to judge ice conditions will also help you make more informed decisions while enjoying winter activities.

• Ice fishing: Jackson Lake typically freezes November through February.
• Ice skating: A great family outing and is easily accessed at the boat ramp.

Wildlife Watching

The park is home to an abundance of wildlife, even some rare species during the winter months. Jackson Lake is a winter home to long-eared owls that spend their time in the shrub areas on the west side of the park. They are solitary creatures, so be quiet when looking for them. Deer, rabbit, squirrel, fox, coyote, waterfowl, raptors (including Bald Eagles), and shore birds can also be found.
