Colorado State Parks

Nature Education

The Visitor Center is open year-round and has great displays on the wildlife, ecosystems and history of Vega State Park and the Grand Mesa National Forest. If you are interested in learning more about the area, there are great books featuring this region available in the gift shop.

From Memorial Day to Labor Day our interpretive staff is ready for fun, with programs every Friday and Saturday. Join the staff to learn all about the park, the animals that live there, or how to boat safely. Guest speakers frequently present programs on astronomy, wild flowers, birds, and more.

Hikes and programs are available for schools and other groups all year round by calling the park at (970) 487-3407. The Park has a vast collection of programs so every weekend you can learn some new fun, fascinating facts on: Skulls & Scats; Beavers; Moose; the Ute Indians; the Night Sky; Agricultural History; Bears; and Big Cats of Colorado and many more. If you are interested in helping with school outreach programs or presenting one at the Park please call the Visitor Center.
