Track-Chair Program

Staunton State Park Track-Chair Program

Colorado Parks and Wildlife values the right of every visitor to experience our state’s natural beauty. To provide this opportunity to the disabled community, Staunton State Park offers Action Trackchairs®, which allow visitors with limited mobility to explore designated trails in the park.

The chair allows access to three trails, each featuring gorgeous park feature including high grassy meadows, a wide variety of wildlife, geological and water features. The trails offer spectacular views of Pikes Peak, Lions Head & Mount Rosalie.

Track-Chair Program Information

The Track-Chair program is open. Trips are offered Friday-Sunday, and reservations are free except for the daily $10 park entrance fee.

Continuing the Healing Legacy of the Staunton Family

Staunton State Park opened in May of 2013, thanks to the generous donation of 1,720 acres from Frances Staunton in 1986. The daughter of Archibald and Rachael Staunton, both doctors in Denver in the early 1900’s, Frances and her family spent summers on their ranch in the Elk Creek Valley. Dr. Rachael treated the local population that needed care, including patients with tuberculosis, and worked with the local Ute tribes to learn and use many of their herbal remedies.

The Staunton healing legacy continues today with the first Track-Chair program in the Colorado state park system, making trails in Staunton State Park accessible to all. Thanks to the fund-raising efforts of the Friends of Staunton State Park and the Mark Madsen Accessibility Fund, two Action Trackchairs and a trailer have been purchased for guest use in the park.
