From high grassy meadows at 8,100 feet to soaring granite cliffs over 10,000 feet, Staunton State Park’s varied geology, soils, water features, and climate support rare and unexpected plant communities and a rich diversity of wildlife and provide a myriad of outdoor recreation opportunities.
Staunton State Park opened to the public on May 18, 2013. The park is located approximately 40 miles southwest of downtown Denver, north of US Highway 285 and about six miles west of Conifer. The Park sits divided between Park and Jefferson counties, in Pine, Colorado.
The first 1,720-acre parcel of land was donated to then Colorado State Parks in 1986 by Frances Hornbrook Staunton. Subsequent parcels of land were added over the years to make up the now 3,828-acre park. Read more about the story of Staunton State Park at our history page.
Staunton State Park is the legacy of Frances H. Staunton. As her beneficiaries, present and future generations are entrusted with this land—to enjoy, protect and treasure as she did.
Visitor Center
Come on in to get your vehicle pass, Staunton retail, brochures, licenses, and information. The Visitor Center is open most Thursdays-Sundays from 9-3, but please call ahead to check.
A state park pass is required on all vehicles entering the park. The daily fee is $10.00.
Self-pay Park Pass Kiosk
The kiosk accepts credit cards only.
We now have a self-pay kiosk available for your convenience if the visitor center is closed.
You may purchase daily passes, hang tag (transferable), or annual parks passes from this kiosk, and you will receive a receipt for annual and hang tag passes that you may redeem at any CPW office.
Self-Serve Pay with Exact Change
If using cash, please plan ahead and bring exact change to purchase your pass at our self-serve station (separate from the credit card kiosk) if the entrance station is unattended.

Pets
Pets are permitted at Staunton. To ensure the safety of you and your pet, all pets must be under your physical control and on a six-foot leash at all times.
Davis Ponds
Both ponds are stocked seasonally near the first of the following months - May, June, July, August, and September.
ADA Accessible Fishing Pier
Our ADA accessible fishing pier is complete and ready to be fished from. Please contact the park about how we can provide an accessible fishing experience on weekdays; we will need at least 2 days’ notice.
Pond Access
Access to the ponds is from the Ranch Hand and Visitor Center Parking Lots. There is no public access below the dams on Elk Creek Road. Do not drop people or equipment off at this location. Violators will be ticketed.
