Amphitheater

Amphitheaters are located at the Moose Visitor Center and the Ranger Lakes Campground. Interpretive programs are offered throughout the park during the summer from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Boat Ramps

Note: No watercraft (SUPs or boats) of any type allowed on Ranger Lakes.

There are two boat ramps at the North Michigan Reservoir, each with a floating boat dock. Please don’t jump off the boat docks. Boats are allowed in the N. Michigan Reservoir with NO wake. Stand Up Paddleboards are allowed. All boats and SUPs must have proper PFDs.

Cabins and Yurts

There are 6 rustic cabins available by the North Michigan reservoir. Cabins 1 & 2 are larger and can accommodate 15-20 people.
Note: Yonder-Yurts.com manages yurts in the Park and the North Park cabins are closed.

Campgrounds

All campsites can accommodate up to 2 tents or 1 camper and 1 tent. 2 vehicles are allowed per site. A total of 6 people or fewer per campsite. All of our campsites are reservation only. Extra vehicle parking is available at the vault toilets in each campground.

Dump Station

The dump station is available ONLY for our camping visitors with a valid registered campsite and parking pass. It is located off County Road 41 on the road to the maintenance shop complex. County Road 41 is the main road through the park.
The dump station is open seasonally.

Entrance Station

The Moose Visitor Center is open year-round, Ranger Lakes gate (summer only) and North Michigan entrance (summer season).

Credit cards may be used 24-hours at our self-serve credit card machine on CR-41 at the entrance station and during business hours at the Moose Visitor Center.

All other self-serve stations take cash and checks only - Ranger Lakes, Bockman, 7-Utes and Crags entrances as well as the top of the pass at the walk-in area of the Michigan Ditch-American Lakes trailhead.

Fishing Piers

There are two floating docks for fishing at the N. Michigan Reservoir. Or check out the beautiful fishing pier at Ranger Lakes that is handicap accessible.

Park Office

The Moose Visitor Center is open daily (except Thanksgiving and Christmas day). Call for seasonal hours.
The Visitor Center is located at 56750 Highway 14, just 1 mile east of Gould, CO, or about 20 miles east of the town of Walden, Colorado.

Stables or Corrals

State Forest State Park offers 2 corrals. One at the Bockman Campground and one in the Primitive loop at the end of CR41 near the Canadian River Trailhead. Water is available in Bockman and at the cabins at North Michigan Reservoir.

The Bockman Horse Corral has 4 sections allowing 3 horses in each section. The corral trail is accessible and is located between site #309 and #311 on the east side of Bockman Campground. These corrals were generously gifted by The Roundup Riders of the Rockies Heritage and Trails Foundation.

The Corral at the Canadian River Trailhead has 18 stalls. Camping is available next to the corral (reservation only). There are hitching rails available. This facility was generously donated by The Northern Colorado Backcountry Horsemen.

Trails

State Forest has many miles of non-motorized and motorized trails. The trails are considered multi-use; please remember to use trail etiquette for others enjoying the trail. If you are looking for a backcountry hiking experience, the park has the only backcountry trail system in Colorado State Parks (fires are not allowed in the backcountry). Maps are available at the Moose Visitor Center and our self-serve stations. Our Park brochure and map is located under Publications.
