In the ultimate rugged Colorado, State Forest State Park offers visitors 71,000 acres of forest, jagged peaks, alpine lakes, wildlife, and miles of trails. The park stretches along the west side of the Medicine Bow Mountains and into the north end of the Never Summer Range.

Moose is our claim to fame. North Park is considered the moose viewing capital of Colorado, with over 600 moose to be observed year-round.

State Forest State Park has something for everyone in every season. With so much room and diversity, visitors can experience a bountiful array of outdoor recreational favorites such as camping, hiking, four-wheeling, horseback riding, skiing, snowshoeing, telemarking, snowboarding, snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, birding, wildlife viewing, and geocaching.

Upgraded Dump Station - Water available in summer.

Located on CR-41 - past the entrance station, turn left at the dumpsters, proceed straight ahead​​. Dump station is located on the right. Potable water is available. Please be patient during high use times.

North Michigan Reservoir

Water Activities:

  • Water activities are allowed ONLY on N. Michigan Reservoir. No wake.
  • NO water ​craft allowed on Ranger Lakes. ​Remember to have your PFD and whistle with you!
  • NO Swimming, campfires, water craft on Lake Agnes, Kelly, Clear, and Jewel Lakes.

Campground and Cabins

Sites are reservation only, and reservations can be made at CPWshop.com or call (800) 244-5613. See the State Forest Camping page for more info.

  • Fires are allowed, but only in designated fire rings - no fires in the backcountry.
  • Camping check-in time is 1pm; check-out time is noon.
  • Cabins at North Michigan Reservoir are open for reservations. Check-in time is 4pm; check-out is noon.

Amenities at the Park

  • Potable water can be obtained at the dump station.
    • Potable water is also available at Ranger Lakes, N. Michigan campground cabins during summer.
  • Showers
  • Restrooms are open at the campgrounds and are regularly cleaned, but there is no running water. Please bring hand sanitizer.
