Backcountry Camping

6 backcountry campsites are now available for reservations. Reservations can be made 24/7 at www.cpwshop.com or by calling (800) 244-5613. During hunting season camping is permitted on Friday and Saturday nights only. Hunting is only permitted Monday through Friday, excluding Spring Turkey season, which is on Monday and Tuesdays only.

Biking

Lory’s 21+ miles of biking trails range from the easy valley trails to the advanced trails of Howard, Timber and Mill Creek Link. Check the Lory Facebook page or COTREX for current conditions.

Boating

Horsetooth Reservoir borders Lory to the east and is operated by the Larimer County Department of Natural Resources. Canoeists, kayakers, and rafters can hand-launch their crafts within a short walk from the North Eltuck Bay parking lot. The boat ramp nearest to Lory is located at Satanka Cove on the north side of the reservoir.

Another option for power boaters is Boyd Lake State Park in the Loveland area, a short drive from Lory.

Boat registration services are available at the Lory State Park Visitor Center during business hours. Call (970) 493-1623 for hours.

Dog-friendly

Dogs are welcome in the park as long as:

  • They are on a six-foot or shorter leash at all times
  • Their waste is properly disposed of

Education Programs

Available upon request. Email us at dnr_loryinterp@state.co.us. All school groups are asked to schedule their visit with the park. Scheduled school groups are given priority at the park’s reservable sites.

Fishing

Lory provides access to Horsetooth Reservoir’s Quarry, Orchard, North and South Eltuck, Soldier, and Satanka Coves for fishing. A Colorado State Parks pass and Colorado State fishing license are required. Fishing and Hunting licenses are available at the Lory State Park Visitor Center. Visit fishexplorer.com/co.

Geocaching

Lory has one geocache located at 40°34’04.0”N, 105°11’15.1”W. The park permits individuals to place geocaches in the park after completing an application process. Please contact the park if you are interested in placing a cache. Any unregistered cache will be removed.

Group Picnicking

Lory has three event facilities which are available by reservation. For more information, visit the Group Picnic Areas page. Non-group small picnic areas are available on a first come first serve basis.

Hunting

Lory State Park allows hunting from the Tuesday after Labor Day to the Tuesday before Memorial Day. All hunters are required to check in at the self-service station or the Visitor Center before and after hunting. All other laws and regulations apply while hunting in Lory. A day or annual pass is required. Fishing and Hunting licenses are available at the Lory State Park Visitor Center. Picnicking

Lory has multiple non-reservable picnic sites throughout the park. Some are covered while others are shaded by trees in the area. Most have grilling BBQ stands available for use.

Rock Climbing

There are many existing climbs on the granitic rocks in the Arthur’s Rock vicinity and on Arthur’s Rock itself. Please stop by the Visitor Center to review the climber guides (route guide and bouldering guide) or visit nococlimbing.org. Some routes include bolted protection and rappel anchors. Other routes are “mixed” (bolted and traditional protection).

Bring your crash pads, quickdraws, and gear rack; there’s climbing for everyone! Fixed hardware cannot be installed without an issued “special use permit” from Park Management. Call for more information.

Volleyball

A sand volleyball court is located at the Timber Group Picnic Area. This is available for public use when the picnic area is not reserved.
