An oasis in the desert, Highline Lake is the recreation epicenter for the Grand Valley with two lakes, lush grass, trails and trees.

Connected to miles of trails and close to nearby communities, the park makes an ideal base camp for exploring the Grand Junction area.

The park encompasses 738 acres and features 56 campsites, 105 picnic sites, and 9.6 miles of trails. No matter the season, Highline Lake State Park is a diverse and welcome retreat for campers, anglers, families, and groups.

Birders have plenty to see here. The National Audubon Society designated the park an Important Bird Area, with over 200 species of birds observed including the vermilion flycatcher (extremely rare in Western Colorado), snow geese, white swans, pelicans, blue herons, osprey, bald and golden eagles, owls, sandhill cranes, loons, loggerhead shrike and Cooper’s hawks. Thousands migrate through the area every winter.

What to expect for the 2024 boating season:

  • Highline Lake will NOT be open to motorized boating in 2024. This includes electric motors.
  • As of 3/5/2024, Highline Lake will be open to hand-launched, human-powered vessels such as paddleboards, kayaks, and canoes. This is subject to change as lake conditions change throughout the summer.

For current boating information, please call the Park at (970) 858-7208.

Boat Decontaminations

Although Highline Lake is not open to motorized boating in 2024, we are still offering boat decontaminations and seals by appointment only. Register for an appointment, which can be made for Mondays and Thursdays, between 8am and 5pm. Once registered, you will receive a confirmation email with further instructions upon your arrival to the park.
