Pikes Peak

One of America’s most famous mountains, accessed from Manitou Springs and just 44 miles from Eleven Mile. At 14,110 feet, the summit can be reached by hiking, driving, or riding the cog railway through the scenic Pike National Forest.

Royal Gorge

The world’s highest suspension bridge, located just west of Cañon City and about 35 miles from Eleven Mile’s south shoreline. The gorge offers spectacular views of the Arkansas River flowing over 1000 feet below.

Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument

Two miles south of Florissant and 18 miles from Eleven Mile. Features include a wonderful collection of meadows and forests, wildlife, and wildflowers. It is also renowned for the variety of fossils found here from earlier eras.

Mueller State Park

Four miles south of Divide and 28 miles from Eleven Mile. It is one of Colorado’s largest state parks and is nestled among mountain ridges that provide spectacular views of the Pike National Forest. Wildlife abounds here and the fall aspen viewing is unrivaled.

Molly Kathleen Gold Mine

Located in Cripple Creek, which is about 42 miles from Eleven Mile. It is over 100 years old and was one of the first mining claims discovered in the Cripple Creek Gold Camp. The Cresson Gold Mine is still in operation today. Tours are available at both mines.

Gold Belt

This Scenic Byway Tour is a 131-mile loop that starts in Florissant and takes in the majestic views of the Beaver Creek Wilderness Area and the Royal Gorge, then returns through the historic mining towns of Cripple Creek and Victor.

Downtown Cripple Creek

This historic mining town is the gambling mecca of southern Colorado and is only 45 miles from Eleven Mile. A visit to the town will be sure to stir the imagination about Colorado’s wilder days and then, of course, there is also all the gambling to be had.

Community Facilities

Gas, firewood, groceries, and lodging may be found at the Eleven Mile General Store (just outside of the park entrance) or in nearby Lake George where dining and church services are offered as well. Additional facilities may be located in the towns of Florissant, Divide, and Woodland Park, east of Lake George.
