Winter Activities
Winter is an excellent time to visit Barr Lake State Park. It’s great for wildlife viewing, ice fishing, waterfowl hunting, and weekend interpretive programs. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are permitted on the park’s trails. Visitors are required to remain on the trails in the wildlife refuge year-round.
Before going out onto a frozen lake, pond, or river, it’s important to take safety precautions to reduce the risk of falling through the ice. In winter months, the reservoir starts to fill up again and ice conditions are unstable. Extreme caution is advised for any ice activities. Knowing how to judge ice conditions will also help you make more informed decisions while enjoying winter activities. For more information on ice safety, contact the park office for current conditions at (303) 659-6005.
